“There’s a template out there. You can call it the American Dream, or Keeping Up With The Jones’s, or whatever, but that’s just a template. It’s not THE template. And once we realize that, I think we could create our own template that works just for us.

– Joshua Fields Millburn

I think we, me for sure, sometimes get caught up in living a life that society deems as correct. Whether it’s what we see on social media, reality television, or even what we’ve been taught throughout childhood. Like there’s some standard that we have to live up to.

I used to struggle with thinking that I wasn’t following the right template. I would compare myself and my successes to others. I wondered why I wasn’t in the same stage of life as my friends, and I beat myself up for not being on the same path as those around me. I was unhappy and felt stuck. Thank goodness for 2016!

This past year was a year of learning. It taught me so much about myself – who I am, what I want, and where I want to be. It was a year of growth, independence, happiness, and spontaneity. I decided to live in the now, go for what I want, and love who I am and where I’m at in life. I gained so many new friends who turned in to family and still have an amazing group of gal pals whom I love more than words.

I realized that everyone has their own template and not one template is better nor more correct than the other. I became a better me. So cheers to 2017! It has some big shoes to fill.

Still looking for a resolution? I always love the resolutions to go to the gym more, read more books, etc., but often times they seem to fizzle. Maybe this year go a little deeper and get more personal. There’s not need to make a drastic change to who you are; just become a better you. I find this to be something that you can do in both little and big ways everyday throughout life.

This year I challenge you to love yourself more each day.  Surround yourself with people who love you, believe in you, and care about you deeply. Stand up for yourself and don’t waste time dwelling on negativity. Do what you want and live a little. This life is too short to be anything less than happy.

With love,
